Susans New Role In Management
If you could go back to your first week, what would you tell yourself?
If I could go back to my first week, I’d tell myself to absorb as much information as possible and to ask questions when given the opportunity to network with the multifaceted minds of our business. Had I understood the levels of our industry and the real potential here, I wouldn’t have taken as long to put my all in.
What is the one thing about the culture here that you could not find anywhere else?
I have always loved that we’re a performance based company, meaning all my superiors have been exactly where I’m at today. Everyone meets me where I’m at because they understand my position. There has always been a certain amount of loyalty and dedication to my success here that I believe stems from how everyone has watched stages of my program and grown a small amount of emotional investment in seeing my success.
What skill did you build here that you did not even know you needed?
Since starting here, I have gained a lot of confidence and a bit of an outspoken nature I have always had but never nurtured. It pushed me to learn how to take control of my circumstances, whatever that might be Now i can always be a creator even when it’s uncomfortable.
What was the hardest feedback you ever received and what did you do with it?
The hardest feedback I ever received was being told that I didn’t know how to give direct criticism and I was too nice but I got honest with myself and networked with people that were great at the things I wasn’t.
What is the most random thing you are genuinely good at?
I’m good at making a few words into songs. Not only with melody but also with rhythm. For every awkward silence there is a song to fill the dead space, sing along with me!

If you could go back to your first week, what would you tell yourself?
I would tell myself to ask as many questions as possible. Understanding the opportunity wholeheartedly is beneficial to be able to grow fast.
What is the one thing about the culture here that you could not find anywhere else?
Everyone wants the best for each other. No one is trying to get you out your spot because everyone can win here. There’s a seat at the table for everybody with a number of new non profits in the pipeline.
What skill did you build here that you did not even know you needed?
A skill that I built was active listening. I had to realize that listening to speak wasn’t beneficial in getting donors in the field and or getting people I’m mentoring to follow me.
What was the hardest feedback you ever received and what did you do with it?
The hardest feedback that I ever received was that I was succumbing to pressure. How I overcame that was by realizing pressure is self imposed and that I had to start putting pressure on the systems, process and numbers and everything would work itself out.
What is the most random thing you are genuinely good at?
The most random thing I am genuinely good at is pronouncing names. My last name is pretty difficult to say at first glance so I think I was able to foster the skill of saying names because of it.
